Caffeine pouches: the complete guide
Caffeine pouches are small white pouches of plant fibre with caffeine added, placed under the upper lip in the same way as a nicotine pouch. They contain 0 mg nicotine and no tobacco. The caffeine amount is printed on the can as milligrams per pouch, and in our range it runs from 20 mg to 100 mg.
What a caffeine pouch is
A caffeine pouch is a nicotine-free pouch with one addition: caffeine, measured and printed per pouch. The base is microcrystalline cellulose (plant fibre), water, salt, flavourings and sweeteners. The caffeine sits in the pouch material; nothing is chewed, drunk, heated or inhaled.
Four brands make up the caffeine family on 24Nico: LEWA of Sweden, CAFERO from LUNA Corporate, CAMO from UAB Global Snus, and Hicaff from Microzero. All 16 products are Slim format, and all are white, dry pouches.

How caffeine is listed
Every caffeine pouch prints its caffeine as a number of milligrams per pouch: 20 mg, 50 mg, 77 mg, 80 mg or 100 mg in our range. That number is the amount in one pouch, not in the can and not per gram. A can of 20 Hicaff pouches at 100 mg therefore holds 2,000 mg of caffeine in total.
Two everyday comparisons put the numbers in context:
- A regular 240 ml (8 oz) cup of brewed coffee is commonly cited at about 95 mg of caffeine (USDA FoodData Central).
- A 250 ml can of Red Bull contains 80 mg of caffeine (manufacturer).
On those figures, a 20 mg LEWA pouch is about a fifth of a cup of coffee, an 80 mg CAFERO pouch matches a 250 ml Red Bull, and a 100 mg Hicaff pouch is slightly more than a cup of brewed coffee.

Formats, counts and net weight
All 16 caffeine pouches are Slim. Pouch weight rises from 0.6 g (LEWA) through 0.65 g (CAFERO) and 0.7 g (Hicaff) to 0.75 g (CAMO). LEWA packs 18 pouches per can; the other three brands pack 20. The net weight per can follows: 10.8 g for LEWA, 13.0 g for CAFERO, 14.0 g for Hicaff and 15.0 g for CAMO.
As they all share the Slim format, the choice between them comes down to caffeine level and flavour. The Slim filter lists them alongside the zero-nicotine Slim pouches.
Flavours
Caffeine pouches lean toward two flavour families: coffee and mint.
The coffee group is the largest: CAFERO Americano, Cappuccino and Vanilla Latte, and CAMO Vanilla Coffee and Iced Mocha. The mint group is LEWA BURN Citrus Mint, LEWA FOCUS Cucumber Mint, LEWA POWER Functional Wintermint and Hicaff Fresh Mint Slim.
The rest sit in fruit, cola and candy flavours: LEWA GLOW Strawberry Vanilla, LEWA POWER Apple Spruce, LEWA POWER Cola Lime, LEWA POWER Liquorice Raspberries, CAMO Bubble Gum Caffeine, Hicaff Classic Cola Slim and Hicaff Energy Rush Slim, which the maker describes as an energy drink flavour with a menthol note.
How a caffeine pouch is used
The routine is the same as for any pouch.
- Take one pouch from the can and place it under the upper lip, against the gum.
- Leave it still. The pouch is not chewed, swallowed or dissolved; the caffeine and flavour come through the pouch material on their own.
- When the flavour fades, take it out and put it in the lid compartment or a bin.
How long a pouch stays in is a personal matter; most people remove it when the flavour has gone. Some manufacturers print a recommended time on the can. Because the caffeine is stated per pouch, one pouch is one serving of the amount printed on the can.

Below the actives, the base is familiar: microcrystalline cellulose (E460), water, flavourings, salt, sweeteners such as sucralose (E955), acesulfame K (E950), erythritol (E968) and stevia (E960), humectants such as propylene glycol (E1520) and glycerol (E422), and pH regulators such as sodium carbonate (E500). Hicaff lists ammonium chloride (E510), the salmiak salt common in Swedish-style pouches. CAFERO lists a cooling agent and a preservative (E202). CAMO prints a short panel (caffeine, glycerine, flavouring, salt, sweetener, cellulose filler) without E-numbers.

Functional and "focus" pouches
LEWA's four lines are named BURN, FOCUS, GLOW and POWER. FOCUS lists caffeine, magtein and vitamin B12. GLOW lists caffeine, vitamin B12, vitamin B5, zinc, magnesium and dracobelle. CAFERO, CAMO and Hicaff add caffeine and nothing else active. They are the plain caffeine pouches.
How they are labelled
The can of a caffeine pouch carries an ingredients panel and a label stating the caffeine per pouch. How a caffeine product is classified depends on what it is: in Canada, rules differ by product type and can change; check Health Canada. The label on the can reflects what the manufacturer declared at the time of printing.
Health Canada recommends a maximum of 400 mg of caffeine a day for adults, and 300 mg a day for people who are planning to become pregnant, are pregnant or are breastfeeding. EFSA's 2015 scientific opinion on caffeine gives 400 mg a day, and 200 mg in a single serving, for healthy adults; the US FDA's consumer guidance "Spilling the Beans" likewise cites 400 mg a day as not generally associated with negative effects for healthy adults.
