About Klar
KLAR is the consumer pouch brand from Emplicure, an independent Swedish bioscience company based in Uppsala. Emplicure was founded in 2015 by Professor Håkan Engqvist, whose academic background sits in Applied Materials Science, and spent its early years developing bioceramic materials for medical applications such as implants and dentistry. The Uppsala lab applies that same bioceramic work to the KLAR pouch carrier today, and KLAR launched in 2024 as Emplicure's first nicotine pouch product.
SERATEK™ bioceramic carrier
The pouch material inside a KLAR can is built on SERATEK™, a patented calcium-based bioceramic developed at Emplicure's lab in Uppsala. The key differences from a standard nicotine pouch:
- Carrier material: a precision-engineered calcium compound, rather than the cellulose plant fibre used by most brands.
- Finish: unbleached, so the pouches keep the natural off-white tone of the underlying material.
- Format: Mini at the lower strengths, Slim at the top of the range.
- Pouches per can: 24.
